After Chapter 3

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

We just finished reading about Hugo taking care of the clocks in the Paris Train Station. His uncle is responsible for teaching him how to take care of the 37 clocks throughout the station. We never actually see this uncle but he also has a pile of checks that have never been cashed. Where did the uncle go? Where is Hugo living? What about his parents? These are all questions my class had after reading this chapter. This post I would like to comprise a list of questions that you or your class had after reading this chapter or the next few chapters. By the end of this week, we should have read through Chapter 6/7.
If you are a class following this blog and project, I would love to hear suggestions for future posts, where you are from and any other ideas that your classes might have.

Finally, we see people from all over the country (and a few from outside) visiting the blog. Please, Please join in on the blog and project.

I think his Uncle is somewhere else in the world. I think he just left and will probally never come back. But if my guess is corret I wonder if he will ever come back to get Hugo. I hope to find out soon. I think he is living above the clocks because the clocks are in the train station and he takes care of the clocks and he is always at the train station so he might live near it or above it. But I wonder what he room looks like if he has a room? I think that his mom might have died sadly. But I think that he still has his father but I think his father might die later on in the story. I feel bad for Hugo. If that does happen to him. I know how I would feel if something happened to my parents. Well I hope that my prodiction are correct but we'll have to keep reading to find out. So there are my thoughts and prodictions. Hope that they are correct!

Maybe the uncle went somewhere far away, Hugo might be living behind the clock in the toy booth, maybe his parents are in another country.

We had the same questions as you did after that chapter. We just finished chapter 7. We are still wondering what happened to the Uncle. We are also wondering if Hugo will ever get his notebook back. Will Hugo ever fix the automaton and read a message from his father?

We noticed that when Hugo got the ashes and started crying the old man was crying too. We wonder what is the connection between Hugo, the man and the girl and most importantly, the automaton?

We are a 4th grade class in Westchester County, NY. We looked at the Hugo Cabret website and learned more about Brian Selznick and how he got the ideas for writing the book, including the movie Trip to the Moon and the videos about automaton.

1. His uncle might of left him because he probably did not want him anymore or he just left one of the two.

2. I say, but this is just a guess Spain,Germany, Mexico,or like somewhere in Europe.

3.his parents will probably be in the story later or not at all but his parents maybe left him on a door step or something.
